City manager Bill Durham reported multiple lights damaged in parks and streets, with cartridges found discarded after snapping. Police gathered clues to identify the shooters and ammunition source, with possible charges for discharging firearms within city limits and property destruction.
Amarillo Laundry driver Voss Brummal disappeared after leaving for a hunting trip Monday morning. His wife fears foul play as police searches yield no trace. Brummal had been hijacked last December and warned his wife to have the truck handled by a boy.
Ex mayor Eugene S. Blasdel was mourned at a 2 PM service at Central Presbyterian Church in Amarillo. Dr. R Thomson led the funeral with burial at Llano Cemetery. Pallbearers included Sam Vaughn Charles Ware H L Adkins Grady Nobles Fred DeCos ter and Allen Early. Blasdel died of heart disease on a hunting trip near Springerville Arizona.
Claude Hall, 28, died in Palestine Texas from injuries suffered when an explosion wrecked two business houses. Hall, who was working on a gas meter connection, was severely burned and lacerated after the blast occurred yesterday. initial reports underestimated his injuries.
The U S Weather Bureau forecast persistent cool unsettled conditions for tonight and Wednesday with rain likely on Wednesday. Amari llo and the Panhandle report misty skies and dropping temperatures with Texline at 32 degrees and Amarillo at 40 for the day. Rail lines show gradual cooling. fog remains unrelieved. A delegation of about 26 West Texas bankers and business men pressed Governor Dan Moody for an immediate special legislative session to appropriate relief funds for drought stricken areas. They warned of an expanding protest from 50 to 60 counties and 400 to 500 potential delegates, with state leaders backing the move and farmers on the verge of disaster.
In Washburn Wisconsin on October 21 a 60 year old George Froseth assistant postmaster killed his wife and four children with a hammer then slit his throat at home. Victims include Mrs Froseth 45 and children Neil 10 5 9 year old twins George William Adelaide 5.
The federal court docket moved slowly as 15 crim inal cases were disposed of with two pleas of guilty. Henry D. Caldwell admitted violating the Dyer Act and received 22 months in Leavenworth. Marvin Henchee got 30 days for liquor possession. Fred Vehmeyer pled not guilty to transporting a stolen auto. the trial paused for noon and will resume with a jury verdict later. Edward McAlester awaits sentence after pleading guilty. Caldwell indicated he would contest the case. George A. Ryan, father of two orphans, pleaded guilty Monday to passing a counter.
President Hoover summons the unemployment committee to the White House to begin a drive for two to three million jobs. The group aims to relieve winter suffering as bread lines grow and more citizens seek warm clothing. Secretaries Lamont Hyde Wilbur Davis Hurley and Mellon plus Governor Meyer of the Federal Reserve Board comprise the panel.
