Am rillo approves revised city water rates for small consumers
The Amarillo city commission on Tuesday night adopted a new water rate schedule to replace the flat 2 dollar charge for 4 000 to 7 000 gallons with graduated reductions from 10 to 35 cents in lower brackets. The scale lowers minimum charges to 1 75 cents at 1090 gallons and keeps the upper bracket unchanged, with all over 7 000 gallons priced by tier. Officials say the revision could cut 7 000 to 3 000 dollars annually from the plant’s revenue, benefiting small users. Mayor Rods D Rogers notes the city has long discussed adjusting the old May 1929 schedule and emphasizes the department does not profit heavily, adding Amarillo’s rate is already among the lowest in the area.
