Convict says student death was an accident

John M. Pickett a 29 year old ex convict told Austin and San Antonio police he killed Edgar Arledge Jr a University of Texas senior as an accident He said he approached the car to rob the couple then fired when Arledge attacked his hand with the gun. he insisted he did not mean to shoot. Pickett was paroled July 15 1931. From Crosby County he had been sent to the penitentiary for burglary before employment as a stone setter. See killing page 2.
