Steve Gadler, a St. Paul consulting engineer, told the House committee on un American activities that Communists had tried to take over the former labor party. He said he did not accuse the party majority or rank and file, calling them good American citizens. He named Governor Benson, Congressman Bernard, Congressman Teigan, and Mr. Williams as figures cited in Communist publications as allies of the cause.
The Daily Herald reports plans for a state visit by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to the United States next summer to conclude his Canadian tour. The visit would be announced in the king's throne speech opening Parliament November 8, with the British embassy and U S State Department coordinating a tentative program for approval by King and President Roosevelt.

Jaunty Russ Morris and Bob Mc Daniels, new owners of the unofficial world light aircraft endurance record, stayed aloft aiming for 150 hours to deter challengers. The two 24-year-old aviators, in a four cylinder powered craft, cracked the prior 116 hour mark set by Merrill Phoenix and Harold Allen.
An official communique reported President Kamal Ataturk gravely ill in Ankara. The liver ailment has long troubled him and his condition worsened Sunday with only slight overnight improvement.
The Treasury announced a deficit of 908.98 million dollars for the first three and a half months of the fiscal year, over double the 411.51 million shortfall the previous year. Spending reached 2.565 billion while receipts were 1.656 billion, with WPA as the main driver of higher outlays.
Col. Charles A. Lindbergh began an inspection tour of the German aircraft industry with a two day visit to factories near Berlin. The visit follows his earlier tours and underscores interest in Nazi aviation capabilities.
Concert pianist Francis Moore will perform Wednesday evening at Amarillo College. The program includes Haberbier Prelude Guilman-Juliarveking Fuge Mozart Sonata in A Major Faure Theme and Variations and Chopin Twenty four Preludes. Washington reports that more than half of the 4 000 Americans who joined the Spanish Civil War appear to have been lost in action. After a withdrawal of foreign volunteers, surveys fail to account for at least 2,000 men and state department officials offer little hope their fate will be known.
Smyrna Georgia reports Will Russell, a black man, held in jail for safekeeping after a mob threatened lynching. The killings of George Washington Camp aged 66 and his divorced daughter Christine Camp Pauls 26 and the beating of her nine year old son Cecil are linked to a motive police call obviously criminal assault.
In Hermosillo Sonora on October 17 General Avila Camacho war minister said federal troops were being used to round up three Yaqui groups reported in rebellion after he flew from Mexico City.
Mr Moore is presented in Amarillo by the Fine Arts Department of Amarillo College. Tickets to the concert are on sale at the college. Prices of admission are $1 for adults or 50 cents for students. The public is invited.
Plains Boat Club will host a chile and tamale supper at City Lake on Sunday evening at 6 o'clock. Secretary Pat Flynn announced. Guests included Congressman Marvin Jones Mays Ross Rogers and Chamber of Commerce Secretary Carl Hinton. Sea Scouts demonstrated sailing maneuvers. Over 200 people attended the lake event with about boats taking part in the afternoon sailing.
