The State Board of Education adopted a new integrated social studies textbook for fourth grade, titled First Families of America, written by Annie L. McDonald, Amarillo Elementary Schools supervisor. The six year adoption covers two units on Indian history and the Westward Ho movement, with illustrations by Elizabeth Rice and published by the Stock Company of Austin.
In Istanbul on October 18 an official bulletin reported no noticeable change in the grave condition of President Kemal Ataturk who lies ill at Dolmabahce Palace. The 58 year old leader had a better night than Sunday and is said to be suffering from a recurrence of an old liver ailment.
Mr Collman warns a light frost is possible tonight with a low near 45 degrees, especially in low-lying areas like lake beds. He says the frost will be slight and cause no damage. Temperatures are expected to moderate tomorrow after this brief chill.

Kansas City police probe the death of 16 year old Thomas McMenemy found scalded in a locomotive blow-off box. Missing 10 days, the guarded box suggests non accidental entry. Investigators report a bicycle and $2 in cash also missing.
The Amarillo Livestock Sales Company recorded a new sales record yesterday with more than 40000 dollars from 1500 cattle. Co manager Bill Hill and co owner Jack Coulter reported that Portland Oregon was the farthest destination for checks with cattle consigned from New Mexico Arizona and numerous Texas locations. Last year the yard moved cattle totaling about a million dollars.
Hendaye France October 18 insurgent preoccupation with international politics caused a virtual suspension of hostilities in the Spanish civil war.
