The third government oil transaction between Harry F. Sinclair and Albert B. Fall was ruled invalid. Attorney General Sargent voided the Salt Creek royalty oil sale near Teapot Dome, Wyoming, due to secrecy in December 1922 negotiations and a renewal option not publicized. Interior orders to halt delivery to Sinclair Crude Oil Purchasing. possible further suit to recover oil removed since 1922.

Clarence Darrow, famed liberal lawyer, would be asked to defend Lorenzo Wittner traffic bureau clerk in Washington. Wittner claimed the civil service commission overstepped by barring government employees from political participation and expected to lose his job after endorsing Governor Smith.
Amarillo officials wired invitations to the Southwest Waterworks association urging Amarillo as the 1929 meeting site. Col Harvey H. Haines of the Board of City Development will address the Dallas convention. Amarillo also pressed for the 1928 meeting.
Harry Schaman 38 proprietor of a second hand clothing store at 318 Taylor street died suddenly at 11 this morning in the rear of his store. Physicians and a Blackburn Boxwell ambulance were called but he died before hospital transfer. Believed heart failure. Survived by widow and one child. Family had recently moved to Amarillo and lived in the store rear. Body held at Blackburn Boxwell funeral home pending funeral arrangements and word from out-of-town relatives.
Senator Charles Curtis Republican vice presidential nominee travels from the south to the east as the campaign moves toward a key battle ground. He plans speeches in Martinsburg West Virginia this afternoon and Wilmington Delaware tonight.
The Court of Civil Appeals affirmed a Potter County District Court ruling against the Masonic Temple association for 1926 school taxes of $1,047.10. Justice M J R Jackson notes lodges do other non charitable work, so property not used solely by a public charity. Attorneys argued exemption on charity grounds. decision cites similar Houston case.
More than 15 000 brand new 1929 automobile license tags were received by the county tax collector in Amarillo yesterday. The orange and black plates mirror California designs with serial numbers ranging 829 451 to 844 650 and come with 18 000 receipt forms. Each car uses two plates, rear and front, a system installed last year to prevent reuse on multiple vehicles.

Deputies W Weir and Bob Barnett along with Jailers John Clark and M N Nelson conducted a cell search at Potter County Jail after a rumor of an inmate escape. Seven pocket knives one pair of scissors and several 38 caliber cartridges were found, with some knives having razor like blades, but no solid evidence of a planned breakout. Sheriff Wiley Pollard ordered the search and oversaw the operation.
Roger Q. Williams and navigator Pie Tro Bonelli were in the air barely a minute on an attempted Rome flight when their heavily loaded plane crashed at Curtiss Field Long Island. Charles A. Levine's veteran Columbia, planned for repairs and another start, was involved.
Earl Thomas of Amarillo paid 36.75 dollars after being arrested at Fort Worth and Denver lake by game warden Sam Turner. He was fined in J. W. Minter's justice court for shooting before sunrise. Turner warns deputies will monitor lakes to enforce dawn rules.
Clyde Thompson, a teenager, was sentenced to death by electric chair for the September 7 murder of Lucian Shook in Eastland Texas. Two co-defendants were involved. Woodrow Wilson Davis was 12, and Thomas Davis faced earlier charges dropped. Thompson's lawyers plan to appeal. defense highlighted his youth and character witnesses.
D. L. Jackson son of Judge M. J. RB. Jackson and UT law graduate has been named city attorney to handle all police court cases. He is not connected with the city's corporation counsel firm Underwood Johnson Dooley and Simpson. Jackson will oversee police matters while maintaining a private practice.

A $25 donation from Blackburn Bros. men’s clothiers was dropped at the Amarillo Tri-State Fair Association to help erase a $15,000 deficit. Officials note a committee absence slowed work, but more than $4,000 has been raised and organizers expect mail and voluntary gifts to push toward the $16,000 needed to clear the debt.
Airport registers list multiple arrivals and departures from Amarillo Airport Corp Field. Commander H C MacDonald the 24 year old English aviator began assembling a moth type airplane in Harbor Grace Newfoundland as he prepared to fly solo to England. He had only 80 hours of flight time and awaited favorable weather before taking off. Financing was private and mechanic A F Williams assisted him from England.
Two men in khaki suits robbed Citizens bank in McGehee Arkansas locking five employees in the vault and escaping with 23300 dollars. Unmasked bandits wore smoked glasses as posses from nearby cities began the statewide search.
