The Graf Zeppelin crew and 60 passengers arrive in New York after yesterday’s aerial greeting as planes circled the airship. The float lands at the Battery via the Macon tug with escort of army and navy units before a formal welcome by Acting Mayor Joseph McKee at City Hall.

The Graf Zeppelin’s safe arrival in the United States stirs nationwide jubilation in Friedrichshafen on October 16. In Eckener’s absence, constructors and wives of crew members lead celebrations as bands march through the city.
In Austin on October 16 the Travis County grand jury condemned electricity in fraternity initiations at state institutions. It fixed no penal blame for Nolte McElroy of Houston who died September 30 at Texas University during a Delta Kappa Epsilon initiation after crawling through bedsprings charged from a house light. The panel urged authorities to ban such stunts, noting no intent to kill but carelessness and negligence beyond statute.
William Edward Hickman faced execution after Governor Young refused to commute the death penalty following a conference with his father Thomas Hickman and attorney Jerome Walsh. The decision ends any further effort to halt the gallows in Sacramento California.
The J. C. Penney Company contributed 100 to the $15,000 fund to clear all indebtedness of the Tri-State fair in Amarillo. Col. Ernest C. Thompson led the citizens effort and C. C. Gordon pledged to mail a check immediately. A. R. Young of Woolworth indicated a sizeable donation pending branch approval.

Benjamin Strong governor of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York died in a New York hospital at 8 45 a m after a relapse following intestinal surgery. He had been in poor health for several years and was 56 years old.
Three defendants, Senorita Piedad Rangel, Senorita Margarita Pacheeneco, and Rafael Enriques Vidal, were found not guilty of complicity in the assassination of General Alvaro Obregon and released in Mexico City.

Bernadi Exposition shows will winter in Amarillo for the first time with about 17 workers. R T Bob Emmett says the company has rented railroad trackage for winter use and will open November 21 for a week before settling in. The venture supports the Tri State fair and will spend 15000 to 20000 on materials and labor.
Local singers invited to join the chorus for Han del s Messiah benefit at Amarillo College of Music tonight at eight. A second rehearsal drew eighty participants and organizers expect over a hundred tonight for the Children's Home fundraiser.
Reports to Panhandle Plains of Texas Inc directors show exhibits sent to Kansas Iowa and Nebraska this year attracted hundreds of thousands of viewers with several thousand registering for more information. Over $10 000 was spent this year and plans include a November railroad representatives meeting and gatherings with chambers of commerce and county commissioners. Saunders No. 6 in Lefors area Gray county Texas flowed 200 barrels per hour until pinched yielding 1800 barrels in 16 hours. Depth 2655 feet with last two feet in granite wash. Located section 4 block 1 ACH and B survey southeast of townsite. Saunders No. 4 last week produced about 1000 barrels with 1100 today. Total Texas Co. Gray county sands production rises to 10000 barrels daily.
George Meredith, an 18 year old black man, was arrested last night and jailed in Potter County on a charge of theft under 50 dollars. He remains in jail today in default of bond. The charge filed is a misdemeanor.

Amarillo area hunters opened the Texas duck and goose season at dawn with a heavy volley of shots. Dozens of blinds filled as thousands of shots rang out. Some hunters reached a limit of 25, while others found birds scarce on their lakes. Full results from precincts were to come later in the day.
