Reporter CAL BRUMLEY describes viewing a meteor shower from 8 000 to 10 000 feet above Amarillo aboard a Braniff jet. Meteors from Giacobini Zinner streak the night sky as clouds part and the moonlight refracts, turning the sky into a sparkling display.
Strong winds around 25 mph with gusts up to 32 mph chilled Amarillo residents. Moisture favored the eastern Panhandle, Adrian reporting 0.90 inches, while towns like Pampa and Clarendon posted lesser totals. A cold front from Denver lowered temperatures, and showers may return this afternoon. Palo Duro Creek overflowed, Oklahoma’s Canadian River crested near Woodward, traffic halted on Highway 270, and cattle were seen swimming as cowboys tried to herd them.
The United States and Britain called for removing barriers to open Danube trade. Philip Murray formally invited the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen to join the CIO in Miami Beach on October 10. He urged merging political influence to press for price control and tax legislation to head off a new low mood, arguing wage earners cannot buy the nation's products.

Officials noted canned beef avoids embargo limits and lamb shipments could not start before January. The White House indicated no comment on any remarks.
