Amid talk of a several hundred dollar reward for arresting a dog poisoner, residents fear a harsh winter. The Senate approved a measure authorizing states to form home guard units to replace national guard troops called to the regular army. Earlier, youths admitted vandalism at Humphrey Highland School. Monday night safes netted about $2,000. Stores Hub Clothiers and Regent's were burglarized.
Milk thieves in Amarillo plot to steal more by faking orders. They aim to get whipping cream and chocolate milk delivered, then steal the items after they are filled.
Horace Mann School’s 1,400 pupils exited in 1 minute 45 seconds during a fire drill staged for the North Amarillo Kiwanis Club. George Bates acted as fire prevention program chair with Charles Smith presiding, and Lee Hunter blew the gong to end the drill.

He was seriously injured in a spring automobile crash near Elk City Oklahoma and underwent surgery at McBride Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was brought home by airplane and remains bedridden as drainage tubes are removed and recovery progresses slowly.
Amarillo High School hosts a dinner dance in the girls gymnasium from 5 30 to 7 o clock. The event lacks dinner but proves popular as students have time to go home dress for the dance enjoy an hour and a half of dancing and still return home early to study.
Advanced CAA pilots sign for an advanced aerobatic course under the Civil Aviation Authority will meet tonight at 8 at Municipal Airport. Porkey will be interviewed by Fred Smith of Amarillo Air Service, contractor for the training. Eligible CPTP pilots are 19 to 26 with 60 college hours and must pass a physical. Seventeen have signed. quota is 20. Red Holmes announced that Amarillo College and West Texas State College quotas in the primary program are filled. West Texas will train 30 primary pilots and 20 will receive instruction at Municipal Airport.
Carl G. Clifft, Potter County superintendent of public instruction, was elected president of the Potter County unit of the Texas State Teachers Association at the local unit meeting. The group includes teachers from Potter County rural and Amarillo public schools and lists officers Miss Sarah Miller first vice president A B Lewis second vice president Miss Carmen Ulm Ewell W Fowler A B Hayes R A Selby and executive committeemen.
Amarillo High School faced a wave of illness as many students and three instructors were out with colds. Principal R B Norman said the epidemic worsened at the high school while other district schools saw fewer absences last week.
Miss Allie Weatherred aunt of H E Weatherred long a frequent visitor to Amarillo died Friday afternoon at her Covington Texas home aged 83. She is survived by her nephew and several great nephews and nieces including T H Weatherred Charles Weatherred Katherine Weatherred Louise Newman O A Pitt and Pat Boone of Pampa.

County Clerk Hubert Cole told Amarillo Jaycees that Potter County is oversubscribed twofold for draft volunteers with over 600 offering to help and about 300 needed for Oct 16 duties.
