Carl Tanzler von Cosel a 70 year old X ray technician faced arraignment on a mutilation charge after police found Elena Hoyo's mummified body in his bed for seven years in Key West Florida. He had slept beside her body since 1931. The body was dressed in a blue silk gown with a veil and artificial rose. Cosel had kept the body in a vault then brought it home reconstructing it with papier mache and wax. He was jailed after a search warrant followed a family complaint.
In Texarkana Arkansas on October 7, C. E. Pattilo, a truck driver, confessed to fatally shooting W. Preston Rogers as Rogers sat with Pattilo's estranged wife in a parked truck outside the Texarkana policeman's ball.
