Lieutenant William R. Hobson son of Mr and Mrs Dee O Hobson was honorably discharged from the Army Air Forces at Amarillo Field He served as a pilot for 18 months with the Fifth Air Force in the Pacific completing 136 missions and earning the Air Medal the Distinguished Flying Cross and four campaign stars He is a graduate of Amarillo High School and had 3 years 7 months of service at discharge.

The 17th Airborne Division first saw combat in the Battle of the Bulge. Troops flew into the battle area to relieve the 11th Armored Division and blunt German counterattacks. They advanced through Cettura, Boullet, Steinbach and Limerle, crossing into Germany near Wiltz. In March the division helped fuel the final push to Berlin by a Rhine crossing with 3000 gliders.
The Coast Guard announces new trade courses for young men who enlist now. Courses include aerograph aviation radio electricity radio material aids to navigation deep sea diving fireman aviation machinery direction finding radar operating and radio. Youths age 17 planning to enlist will receive transportation from Amarillo to Dallas recruiting station on written request to the officer in charge at the Post Office Building Dallas.
Several Panhandle and Amarillo men plan to attend the Range Improvement Field Day and Chuck Wagon Feed in Woodward Oklahoma. Attendees include Jess Hill George Autry Art Bralley Walter Upchurch Newton Harrell and Ray McMurtry. The event at the United States Southern Great Plains Field Station features grazing studies livestock talks brush mowing and beef cattle project tours.
