Congressional Medal of Honor Recipients at White House Ceremony

President Truman honored fourteen Medal of Honor recipients, eleven Marines and three Navy men, on the White House south lawn. Notables included Lt. Col. Gregory Boyington and 17 year old Pvt. Phone Union Walkout Halts Amarillo Lines for Four Hours

About 7000 Texas telephone workers joined a four hour nationwide walkout of the National Federation of Telephone Workers. The protest targets a National Labor Relations Board ruling deeming the Western Electric Employees Association in New Jersey as company dominated and seeking CIO bargaining rights. Amarillo operators joined, arguing the right to independent unionization is at stake. Local calls and long distance service were limited with skeleton staffing at the Amarillo switchboard and emergency handling measures in place.

Youth in Critical Condition After Backyard Shooting

Roger Connellee, 16, was critically injured when a .22 rifle fired during target practice in River Road yard. He was taken to St. Anthony's Hospital after the gun discharged while he adjusted the weapon. his left lung was pierced and the bullet remains in the shoulder.
