In Shanghai on October 8, it was disclosed that Japan executed 14 American airmen at Formosa two months before surrender. Fourteen urns bearing the fliers' ashes arrived in Shanghai, with inscriptions and records confirming their identities and executions.
Japanese records found in September recount a court martial and execution in a Shanghai cemetery involving three of the American fliers from the 1942 Doolittle raid. The four Japanese officers who presided are named in sources but reportedly at large.
