Nine Policemen Hired Under Civil Service in Amarillo
Amarillo appoints nine new patrolmen after the city’s first civil service test for prospective employees held Sept. 26. Names include Clifton Looney, Melvin Wilson, Wiley Alexander, W. H. Arterburn, Wayne Fleming, Claude Evans, M. Pounds, Jesse Boyd, and Charles Trice, all with Navy Army or Marine backgrounds and prior police or guard experience.

Install New Water Lines In City Districts
The water department completed new lines to boost efficiency in Country Club Terrace and Roberts Additions. A six inch line was installed between Hillcrest streets to tie to a four inch line, and another six inch line replaces a two inch line. The work, announced by N W Moss, will relieve dead ends and improve pressure in the two additions.

G W Allbrooks chairs the sales committee with headquarters at the 40 and 8 engine on the west side of Polk between Sixth and Seventh. Volunteers from local schools will assist, and funds go to J E Pietzsch Chapter No 26 for disabled veterans.
