Paying Matters Are Considered by City
The city commission considered two paving petitions and new resolutions. Harold Richey asked to open Twenty-First Avenue between Harrison and Van Buren Streets to shorten a neighborhood route, with 75 percent of block property owners signing. A second petition sought paving on the alley between Second and Third Avenues Buchanan and Pierce Streets with 65 percent signing. Protests to be heard December 16 on paving West Twenty-Sixth Avenue and East Tenth Avenue. Paving accepted on Monroe Street, Arthur Street, and North Mirror Street. The mayor noted inspection and compliance with specifications despite protests. Leave outs mean homesteaders cannot be forced to pay for pavement in front of their homes. The Second Avenues contract from Buchanan to Lincoln was canceled due to insufficient signatures. A bid for 10,000 gallons of asphalt was deferred after only one bid.
