Chicago, Nov 26. FE Russell Thompson, 28, heir to millions and broker, laughed at four youths during a suburban roadhouse robbery and was shot in the head with a shotgun. Bandits robbed the place of 125 dollars after forcing proprietor Frank Engle to open the safe. a fifth bandit waited outside. Thompson, son of Charles E. Thompson, associate of Samuel Insull, died at the scene.
United Press reports a blizzard danger as temperatures plunge toward zero from Chicago to the East Central states. Snow depths reach four to five inches with drifting in several Great Lakes area states. Unemployment relief and shelters see heavy use as misery grows while forecasts promise snow and cold across the eastern half of the United States on Thanksgiving Day.
In Portland Oregon circuit Judge Knowles ruled that kissing another man's wife does not create liability if it does not alienate her affections. The action by John Savolainen against Fred Miller sought damages after an alleged kiss and a disputed out of court settlement. Savolainen claimed Miller owed $87.50 plus interest on a note after paying $12.50.
Police reported a burglary at the Harley Davidson shop at 310 West Tenth Avenue. A sidecar loading a safe containing $30 was driven away after entry by breaking a rear window. The break in was discovered Wednesday morning.
In Austin on November 26 former Judge John W. Brady asked the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals for a new trial. Brady’s counsel Maury Hughes argued Brady’s intoxication and lack of memory left him unable to defend. four eye witnesses did not name him as the killer. District Attorney Will McCraw urged denying the motion, calling the verdict light and merciful and noting trial comments that harmed the state’s case.
A. B. Celey of Potter County won a new trial for a 10 year robbery conviction. The Criminal Appeals Court said the original verdict relied on uncorroborated testimony from Thorpe who had immunity, and there was no independent evidence. Celey was tried in Amarillo for robbing Walter Willmering with firearms. His lawyers had appealed after a prior new trial request was denied.
Amarillo teachers depart at 7 PM for the State Teachers Convention in Houston. Mayor Thompson and Chamber official Vernon join the delegation to campaign for Amarillo as the 1931 host, aiming to overcome Houston’s 1930 win by one vote. Delegates return home Sunday night.
Pampa November 26 Judge W R Ewing ordered Sheriff E S Graves to bring in 50 additional veniremen to complete a jury to try Carl Hefner charged with the slaying of Homer Crabtree. Ten jurors had been chosen before the original venue of 200 was exhausted. State Senator Clint C Small of Wellington assists the prosecution.

Amarillo officials announce a city run program giving jobs to heads of needy families. Starting December 1 workers will dig holes for 10 000 trees in City Section Park at eight am, earning ten cents per hole. Only bona fide Amarillo home owners may apply with proper ID and no floaters.
City commission approves December 29 special election to extend city limits to include the Southwestern Public Service plant, city section park, Tri-State fair grounds, and other properties with petitions. Officials seek police power within expanded boundaries. no charter amendments are planned.
Electrical street decorations in Amarillo for the Yuletide season will be in place and ready to turn on December 10. The same streets decorated last year will be decorated again for the Christmas holidays this year.

In Austin on November 26 a renewed effort to halt Jess J Maple’s execution was reported. Fr O Fuller asked for a 5 pm hearing while Maple, en route from Houston, faced a mandamus stay challenge. The court denied a rehearing. Maple had pleaded guilty to killing Officer Fitzgerald in Houston and confessed to fatally shooting another officer, Phares, during a store robbery investigation. Gov Moody’s ten day reprieve expired with the decision to proceed to Huntsville.

Bands from the Panhandle and Eastern New Mexico will take part in the Kringle pageant to be held in Amarillo on December 11, sponsored by The News-Globe. Mayors and officials are invited by Mayor Ernest O. Thompson, who will host a luncheon at the Amarillo Hotel after the pageant. Santa Claus will lead the parade in a sleigh drawn by a real reindeer, with numerous features planned.
