Youth broker shot dead after laughter at robbers

Chicago, Nov 26. FE Russell Thompson, 28, heir to millions and broker, laughed at four youths during a suburban roadhouse robbery and was shot in the head with a shotgun. Bandits robbed the place of 125 dollars after forcing proprietor Frank Engle to open the safe. a fifth bandit waited outside. Thompson, son of Charles E. Thompson, associate of Samuel Insull, died at the scene.

Kissing Another Man's Wife Not Cause for Suit

In Portland Oregon circuit Judge Knowles ruled that kissing another man's wife does not create liability if it does not alienate her affections. The action by John Savolainen against Fred Miller sought damages after an alleged kiss and a disputed out of court settlement. Savolainen claimed Miller owed $87.50 plus interest on a note after paying $12.50.

Robbers Load Safe Into Motorcycle Sidecar

Police reported a burglary at the Harley Davidson shop at 310 West Tenth Avenue. A sidecar loading a safe containing $30 was driven away after entry by breaking a rear window. The break in was discovered Wednesday morning.

Former Judge Brady seeks new trial in Highsmith case

In Austin on November 26 former Judge John W. Brady asked the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals for a new trial. Brady’s counsel Maury Hughes argued Brady’s intoxication and lack of memory left him unable to defend. four eye witnesses did not name him as the killer. District Attorney Will McCraw urged denying the motion, calling the verdict light and merciful and noting trial comments that harmed the state’s case.

New Trial Granted to A. B. Celey

A. B. Celey of Potter County won a new trial for a 10 year robbery conviction. The Criminal Appeals Court said the original verdict relied on uncorroborated testimony from Thorpe who had immunity, and there was no independent evidence. Celey was tried in Amarillo for robbing Walter Willmering with firearms. His lawyers had appealed after a prior new trial request was denied.

In Austin on November 26 a renewed effort to halt Jess J Maple’s execution was reported. Fr O Fuller asked for a 5 pm hearing while Maple, en route from Houston, faced a mandamus stay challenge.
