Police search for driver of a hit and run that struck a 1938 Ford sedan parked on Buchanan Street. The left front of F. J. Bidwell's car at 805 Rusk was damaged in an 8 o'clock collision last night.
Firemen answered two alarms this morning and yesterday afternoon to combat a blazing pot of beans on a stove in a house at 114 Harrison rear. A wall heater caused a minor fire at 305 Browning. At 9:30 firemen extinguished a storm sewer fire at Ninth and Polk.
A longtime railroad employee retired after serving as switchman since 1919. He received a gold 40 year service button from the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen Local 573, presented by president Roy C. Andrews. He previously farmed and traded cattle in Amarillo. He owns 2710 Arthur and two rental houses, and attends a Baptist church plus WOW SAB and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen.
C. E. Bonney marked forty years with the Santa Fe Railway, starting in Amarillo in 1908 after a varied career in Great Bend, Dodge City, La Junta, Trinidad, Las Vegas, and other yards. His first brakeman run was to Hereford as the train loaded.
