The Philharmonic Orchestral Association announces a varied season led by conductor Robert Louis Barron. Highlights include Haydn symphonies, Strauss and Lehar waltzes, Romberg Blossom Time music, Frim's High Jinks, Gounod The Queen of Sheba pieces, and string orchestra works. Guest artist Barre Hill, Chicago Civic Opera baritone, appears on December 3. Memberships cover all concerts.
San Antonio reports Hal Mullin a Royal Canadian Air Force officer and San Antonio native sees ongoing talks about air force training sites in Texas. Mullin expects more RCAF officers to visit soon and notes Canada has land for fields though cold weather limits flying days. He keeps U S citizenship while serving Canada and ferries planes and trains pilots as part of his service.
The Texas Legal Reserve Funeral Society holds its regular monthly meeting tonight at 8 o'clock in the Woodmen of the World Hall with dancing and games as entertainment. In Dallas on November 13 T. E. Tompkins and R. H. Pitts, both wartime amputees, learned they shared the same shoe size. Tompkins bought a new pair and gave a left-foot shoe to Pitts. A separate note mentions Japan starting a drive to ease wage earner housing shortages.
Ted Strasser of the St Paul Pioneer Press and his brother Carl survived a deadly snowstorm on a Mississippi River island near Wabasha after their duck boat sank. They fought three foot waves, lost equipment, and were tossed toward shore by a giant wave before reaching a farm house for help. Eleven other Minnesota hunters perished in the storm.
The Welfare Committee of the Amarillo Welfare Association will meet tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the Bert Levy, Inc. store. Bert Levy, the chairman, announces several important matters will be discussed.
The Michigan department of conservation with road commissions and chambers of commerce inaugurated color tours to guide tourists to the flaming forests. Tours are mapped for mileage, signed, posted, and promoted to attract weekend visitors.
The Texas Supreme Court refused to review C. B. Bledsoe v city of Amarillo over a personal injury claim after he slipped on gutter debris near 1224 West Ninth Avenue. The trial court and Civil Appeals Court upheld dismissal on grounds of lack of causal connection between alleged negligence and injury.
Amarillo farmer John Collins Latham, 54, died last night at 11 30 in a local hospital after nine years in the area. He owned a farm three miles north of Amarillo and was a Church of Christ member. Survived by wife Norma Jo, three sons Calvin Cal and Gene, and sister Mrs J N Allard, all of Amarillo. Funeral set for tomorrow at 2 PM at N B Griggs and Sons Chapel with Llano Cemetery burial.
The Amarillo Texas Tech Alumni and Ex-Students Association will hold a meeting tomorrow to discuss alumni events and upcoming activities for former students and graduates.
