Gen Heriberto Jara, president of the Mexican revolutionary party, claims a plot by Almazanistas and foreign elements, notably Nazis, to overthrow President Lazaro Cardenas. He shows maps and a notebook, hints at assassination lists, and says documents will be handed to authorities for probe.
Judge E C Nelson of the 47th judicial district will be principal speaker at the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce meeting in Pampa this morning. He will sound the docket for court and empanel the grand jury at 10 o clock tomorrow morning.
Grover Bridges was charged today with a serious case in connection with a public safety incident involving Addie Mae Bell at the rear of 1612 Polk Street. Justice of the Peace Carder jailed him without bail ahead of tomorrow's grand jury convening. Bell, a Black woman, was struck during a scuffle over a small caliber item.
Potter County draft boards report two conscientious objectors this morning both against killing though willing to serve in non combat roles. A big interfraternity meeting is set for 7 30 tonight at the Amarillo Hotel inviting all fraternity men. Sorority women plan a similar gathering Thursday at 8. The network aims to rekindle university and Greek activity in Amarillo with many local ATOs Betas SAE PhI Psi and Kappa Alpha present. The session is expected to last about an hour.
Wade Brymer presented the Taxpayers League update to the Amarillo Real Estate Board citing return of government powers to the people to avoid bureaucratic rule. The Pot ter County Taxpayers Association aims to push government back to public will. A rental agreement drafting committee also reported. Philippines fish species numbering about 1600 exist with roughly 100 marketed.
The Marine Corps shipped four men last night to Oklahoma City for final enlistment before deployment to bases. Enlistees are Tommy S. Cameron of Pampa Kenneth D. Lisenbe of Hereford Horace Jerome Webb of Channing and Elbert Ray Wooldridge of Pampa. The month’s total reaches seven, with five more enlistments allowed before the quota of a dozen is filled.
A city commission deliberates tonight on a rezoning application for a food plant in Amarillo. If granted, the project would proceed, affecting local zoning and potential employment and economic impact in the area.
Amarillo High School students led a Lions Club luncheon program at noon featuring addresses on school problems in developing human resources and education safeguarding natural resources. Haskell Marshall and Bob Russell were jailed after police transferred them to the county on charges of attempted burglary. Arrangements set bonds at 750 dollars each after their arrest at the Quality Bar on West Sixth Avenue where screens were cut. A break in at Oriental Grocery on West Sixth Avenue involved a broken window and theft of two cartons of cigarettes.
Funeral services for Jennie Faye Carroll infant daughter of Mr and Mrs W A Carroll were held this afternoon at the N B Griggs and Sons Chapel Rev E R Foster of the Assembly of God Church officiated Burial was in Llano Cemetery The infant is survived by four brothers and four sisters in addition to her parents at 1804 North Garfield Street
