Amarillo man charged in public safety incident

Grover Bridges was charged today with a serious case in connection with a public safety incident involving Addie Mae Bell at the rear of 1612 Polk Street. Justice of the Peace Carder jailed him without bail ahead of tomorrow's grand jury convening. Bell, a Black woman, was struck during a scuffle over a small caliber item.

Potter County draft boards report two conscientious objectors this morning both against killing though willing to serve in non combat roles. A big interfraternity meeting is set for 7 30 tonight at the Amarillo Hotel inviting all fraternity men. Sorority women plan a similar gathering Thursday at 8. Four Men Enlist in the Marine Corps This Month

The Marine Corps shipped four men last night to Oklahoma City for final enlistment before deployment to bases. Enlistees are Tommy S. Cameron of Pampa Kenneth D. Lisenbe of Hereford Horace Jerome Webb of Channing and Elbert Ray Wooldridge of Pampa. The month’s total reaches seven, with five more enlistments allowed before the quota of a dozen is filled.

Public Hearings on Zoning Requests Across City Areas

City officials schedule hearings tonight on zoning changes for several sites. A foods plant at 98 Taylor Street seeks manufacturing use, 2508 Fillmore Street requests dwelling to apartment zoning, 820 South Lamar Street petitions to change from apartment to retail, with additional hearings on similar applications. Two Face Burglary Attempt Charges

Haskell Marshall and Bob Russell were jailed after police transferred them to the county on charges of attempted burglary.
