Explorer Harriet Adams completes 27 year world journey
Mrs Harriet Chalmers Adams, a leading American woman explorer and president of the Society of Women Geographers, has returned to Washington after six months in distant lands researching the birthplaces and graves of sixteenth century Spanish conquistadors. She endured numerous perils, including vampire bat bites and a poisoned bird, and recovered from a broken back via months in a plaster cast and braces. Adams traveled by trains, ships, planes, canoes, and camels across the globe, often with her husband Franklin Adams accompanying her.
