Crowds Tour Palo Duro Canyon Aiming Park Status

Over 2 000 cars carrying about 10 000 people drove the Palo Duro Canyon Sunday, touring the gorge and supporting its designation as a recreation center. Palo Duro Park Association and Canyon Chamber of Commerce arranged Sunday access as a push for action by the state to create a park. Senator Clint Small warned state aid may be hard, suggesting a road district across several counties to develop the site. Sam Braswell of Clarendon, president of the park association, plans a future meeting to refine the plan. The day opened with ideal weather and a long line of vehicles descending 24 miles into the canyon.
