Gasoline Tank Explosion Threatens Kansas City District

A 20 000 gallon gasoline storage tank at White Eagle Oil and Refining exploded in Kansas City. One man was critically burned and several firefighters injured as flames rose 300 feet. Fire fought for four hours with water and chemicals proving largely ineffective. Residents evacuated and the blaze threatened nearby tanks as gasoline spilled into storm sewers.

Health merger in effect unites city and county units

Two health departments under city and county control are merged into a full time unit for Amarillo and Potter County. Dr. Benjamin M. Primer announced the move after a city hall meeting and said former staff will be retained except for retiring leaders. Staff must submit applications to the state health department as plans for a school health program and public health education in schools begin.
