Army careers parallel even to leg wounds
Two Amarillo soldiers, Cpl. Benino Bastala and Pfc. Jesse Chavez, are on leave from the Army hospital at Longview where they recover from wounds received in Germany. Both wear the Purple Heart, European Theater Ribbon with Bronze Star, and the Good Conduct Ribbon. Both served with the 78th Division after training in England and France. Bastala was wounded in the right leg on Sept 3 1944 and again on Dec 13. Chavez was wounded by shrapnel in the right leg the same day. They traveled a long route back to Longview and expect further treatment after their leave.
