Oil Pipeline Favored for East Coast Supply
J R Parten, head of the transportation division, told a Senate subcommittee that inland pipelines offer the most efficient use of steel to meet the East Coast petroleum shortage. The plan favors a 24 inch line from Longview Texas to the East Coast, and an 8 to 10 inch Florida link from St Joe to Jacksonville to move 40 000 to 60 000 barrels per day amid tanker capacity losses. Smaller pipelines with barge distribution are preferred over a 250 000 barrel 24 inch line across Florida due to barge limitations.
