Mrs. Glenn Scott, board secretary, reports a tentative budget showing an overall 15 percent tax valuation increase needed in the Amarillo school district to finance a bus purchase. Expenditures total about $1,400 with the current tax rate at $1 per $100 valuation.
River Road Independent School District will study buying a school bus. The River Road School hosted a special board session to discuss final action, with district valuation at about 1.4 million dollars. Attendees included G. L. Cline president, Dean Pavillard, W. C. Oler, N. Brown, and J. M. Metcalf.
Old-time customers of White & Kirk vied for a prize during the store 50th anniversary. Mrs. S. B. Stewart of Claude found a Feb 2 1900 check to Ed W White, winner earning 150. Second prize went to Mrs. N. S. Griggs with a Feb 17 1902 grocery check and 100. Other entries included wedding dresses and fabric purchases from 1900 to 1908.
Amarillo High School Thespians will gather tonight at the Blackstone Hotel for their annual banquet. Pat Mullin serves as toastmistress. Initiation for six new members and Thespian honors will be awarded by Mrs. N N Whitworth. Frances Allman Jolyn Jones and Dick Robinette perform in the program.
Bruce Brannon Texas grand master will visit Amarillo lodges Friday. A 6:30 PM banquet at the Masonic Temple precedes a 7:30 PM joint meeting of Amarillo Lodge No. 731 and Palo Duro Lodge No. Brannon will also hold Friday afternoon conferences in the temple parlor.
