Air Crew Survives B-29 Crash After Midair Fire

Twenty airmen escaped a flaming B-29 near Merkel Texas after engine fire forced an emergency parachute jump. Capt Alfonso Camerena was last to leave. One airborne survivor was later found dead in Mulberry canyon, as searchers scoured rugged terrain for the remaining crew.

Plane Crash Near Merkel Kills Three Officers In Storm

A B 25 crash in a thunderstorm near Champaign left two colonels and five other soldiers dead. Col Raymond E ONeill 52 a Chanute Field veteran and Col George A Whatley 45 were among the dead. The 7 victims were en route from Cheyenne to Chanute Field when the crash occurred. Names of the other five victims were withheld pending next of kin notification.

Appeals Court Can't Imagine Use Of Feet in Kicking and Stomping

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals ruled an indictment accusing Buster Northern of murdering a 70 year old woman near Dallas by kicking and stomping was insufficient for not naming the weapon. Judge Krueger dissented, noting the act used the foot, while the majority said the instrument was not stated. Northern had a death verdict later dismissed.
