A severe rainstorm drenched Oklahoma on May 19, with four inches in 45 minutes southwest of Altus and heavy showers statewide. Altus streets and basements flooded, traffic disrupted, and cities from Ponca City to Sapulpa reported downpours and cooler temperatures. Greenfield saw nearly three inches in an hour while Ardmore and South Central reached light rainfall, all contributing to potential bumper wheat yields.
About 100 delegates at the thirty fourth annual Mineral Wells convention oppose a tax levy on grain purchasers and federal farm board interference in the grain business. The Texas Association of grain dealers met to denounce the levy and unfettered federal control as harmful to the trade.

Earl Quinn, a former convict charged with the murder of two Tonkawa Oklahoma school teachers, waived extradition today. He signed the waiver after a talk with his wife and Oklahoma officials were to transport him south later. Quinn had been set for an extradition hearing in Jefferson City before Governor Caulfield.
Valparaiso Indiana May 19 The state finished presenting evidence to seek the electric chair for Virgil Kirkland in the Gary murder of Arlene Draves at a November party. After the state rested the judge overruled a defense motion for acquittal on counts charging murder by rape. The defense argued evidence failed to prove the charges.

The Fisher County grand jury told Governor Sterling it opposes a clemency drive for Lloyd Conatser, serving life in Huntsville for killing Sheriff Bob Smith and Deputy Jake Owens after a cotton theft arrest. Sheppard, also known as Bill Smith, claimed sole guilt before his execution. The jury also reindicted Conatser on cotton theft charges.

In Oklahoma City on May 19, a receivership action against C. C. Julian Oil & Royalties Co. was dismissed by District Judge Sam Hooker after C. C. Julian resigned as sole trustee and said he severed all ties. He announced Judge Charles W. Mason would take complete charge.
ROBY Texas May 19 Trial of Charlton Brown mayor of Mineral Wells in a liquor case was set for May 25 in 104th District Court. An indictment charged him with transporting spiritous vinous and malt liquors following a car crash May 13 when the mayor and a Mineral Wells friend left the highway and plunged into a bar pit on Highway 8% en route to Lubbock for the West Texas Chamber of Commerce convention.
Amarillo manufacturers and jobbers will tour the Santa Fe line reaching Stratford Dumas and Boise City. Date is pending after May 29 plan likely changing. O V Vernon Chamber of Commerce says 100 travelers needed and reservations are open. Round trip fare is 7.45 dollars.
At a Santa Fe meeting in May 19, more than 100 traffic and operating officials outlined a new service for Kansas, Oklahoma, Western Missouri, Texas, Western Louisiana, Eastern New Mexico, Colorado and Southern Nebraska, effective about August 1. Railroads will pick up and deliver less than carload freight free within about 360 miles, but for distances over 300 miles a charge of 10 cents per hundred will apply, with a five cent credit to consignors who perform pickup.
Houston workers in skilled trades end their walkout after unions compromise with contractor Don Hall on a daily wage cut of one dollar. The agreement marks a settlement in the building trades dispute that had disrupted projects around the city.
