A wall collapse during a fire in Gainesville Texas fatally crushed two workers, with several others injured. The victims were H. C. Talley and Wayne Williams. Robert Young was gravely injured. Total losses near $100,000 with extensive damage to the Trew Bros Motor Co and Kennerly Hardware.

Governor Caulfield schedules a May 20 hearing in Jefferson City on Quinn’s request to extradite him to Tonkawa Oklahoma to face charges in the deaths of Zexia Griffith and Jessie Griffith. The case centers on the December 28 killings as the two teachers returned home from Christmas leave.
Clarksdale Mississippi May 18 The Federal government massed forces from Birmingham to New Orleans to solve the slaying of Deputy United States Marshal Clyde Rivers the second federal officer killed in the state within a month in rum warfare. Deputy Prohibition Administrator E S Chapman said we will work together on this case until every man involved is punished.
Fairfield air base in Dayton announces final preparations for a theoretical invasion drill featuring an aerial armada of about 600 planes. the two day review spread from Dayton to Wright Field and will move toward Chicago tomorrow with formations ranging from lone pilot maneuvers to squadron level tactics.
Charles H. Speed Holman, 32, famed aviator, plunged from 258 miles per hour while flying upside down to avoid endangering 20 000 spectators at the Omaha air races. Witnesses say his stunt aim was to thrill yet he misjudged distance and the craft demolished near the grandstand. Tex Rankin then resumed performances as officials halted the next race entries.
Labor leaders from Texas opened the state convention of the Texas State Federation of Labor in El Paso with employment as the big topic. The Allied Printing Trades met for a convention expected to last through Tuesday night, with a program opposing a state prison print shop. More than 400 visitors attended the opening as the State Federation of Labor begins sessions through Friday.
Police followed leads Sunday after Minnie Ford, a Black woman, was struck in the mouth with a bullet that knocked out seven teeth and split her tongue. The suspect was described as a Black person, with investigators continuing the search on Monday.

A freight train struck a car at a crossing killing seven youths from two families. Martha 20 Medona 19 Bernadette 16 Monica 15 Arnold 13 and their cousin Mildred Beyers 16 plus Walter Mumford 17 all died. Crossing watchman efforts could not avert the tragedy.
Wharton County grand jurors convened to consider the slaying of Jack Garner aged 23 who was fatally shot during a holdup attempt. Lee Jenkins a 24 year old filling station watchman was detained but police indicated no charges are expected.
New York May 18 United States steel common and American Can traded below 100 a share in a slow market. Steel Common fell to 99.12, the lowest since 1924, with other major names including American Can Atchison Union Pacific Norfolk and Western American Telephone New Haven American Tobacco B down. National Biscuit New York Central and Lambert slid about four, IBM dropped 16.
Representatives of national farm cooperative associations met in Chicago to coordinate activities of commodity marketing interests under the Federal Farm Board. The meeting, called by Edward A. ONeal of the American Farm Bureau Federation, drew leaders from grain livestock cotton wool pecans dairy poultry and other major farm sectors. It was the first conference of its kind since the 1920 marketing act.
Edward Bouligny a Croix de Guerre recipient and World War I veteran was killed at his New Orleans home by his French wife in the French Quarter. She said in broken English that he had whipped and slapped her. The couple’s apartment was just after he finished dressing. Bouligny was a direct descendant of General Dominique de Bouligny who served under Napoleon in Louisiana.

Canyon area opened to the public for two years through the Canyon Chamber of Commerce Ama rilo Chamber and Palo Duro Park Association drawing an estimated twenty thousand visitors by late afternoon and cars from fourteen states. Speakers hope state funds will buy the canyon from private owners for perpetual public access.

Police link his death to gang warfare with rivals from Canton and to a string of Columbia speakeasies raided by federal officials.
