A broad volunteer effort led by R A Selby includes C M Rogers Annie L McDonald and Dorathy Brokaw among others coordinating greetings arrangements and events for the Teachers Conference first in Amarillo in a century.
Lord Beaverbrook former British minister of war production will go to the United States. A spokesman said he will continue work on pooling United Nations resources and perform other duties as may be entrusted by the war cabinet. The exact duties were not disclosed.

In Peoria Illinois the WPA used a scorched earth method to thaw frozen ground delaying runways. They piled straw four feet deep over the site then covered with sand and lit the straw to smolder. The process thawed soil to 18 inches and is said to hasten completion ahead of schedule.
Burglars robbed John Welch's refreshments stand in the county courthouse last night stealing 58 packages of cigarettes. Welch, who is blind, was unable to resist.
