Harold Heath a butcher at Purr Food 607 Maryland Street acted as a one man fire department when flames rose six feet in his kitchen. He used a hose from the sink to stop the blaze and said he did not learn the cause. A separate report from Martinez California notes an air raid siren test injuring five people in a crowd of about 100.

Dallas Woman Elected President of Texas Church Women

Mrs. Virgil R. Walker of Dallas was elected and installed as president of the Texas Council of Church Women at the closing session of the annual conference. Town Police Consider Tickets for Speeding Trains

Burlington officials may issue summonses to railroad engineers for speeding trains on a main street. An Amboy division line agreed to limit to five miles an hour over a mile stretch crossing seven intersections, but police report trains clocked at 25 miles an hour.
