Harold Heath a butcher at Purr Food 607 Maryland Street acted as a one man fire department when flames rose six feet in his kitchen. He used a hose from the sink to stop the blaze and said he did not learn the cause. A separate report from Martinez California notes an air raid siren test injuring five people in a crowd of about 100.
Mrs. Virgil R. Walker of Dallas was elected and installed as president of the Texas Council of Church Women at the closing session of the annual conference. Other officers include Mrs. William Wood El Paso first vice president and Mrs. J. C. Reed Houston historian. The group adopted goals urging Christian service youth leadership and unity while studying legislation.

Burlington officials may issue summonses to railroad engineers for speeding trains on a main street. An Amboy division line agreed to limit to five miles an hour over a mile stretch crossing seven intersections, but police report trains clocked at 25 miles an hour.

Westmoreland New Hampshire report notes the Cook family began with Charles H. Cook in 1850 as a Boston and Maine station agent and over generations built 370 years of service. Thirteen family members have worked for the railroad, including two women, with six members currently conductors or trainmen.
The Navy sent 67 recruits from Amarillo to Dallas on two chartered bases for the construction regiment. Names include Farrell Lee Wallace, Raymond Wilburn Shannon, Herbert T. Moore, Walter Z. Baker, George Washington Sherrill, and many others from Pampa Amarillo Borger Shamrock Dumas Higgins Perryton White Deer Jericho Mobeetie and nearby towns.

Washington March 19 U P originated report says Oil Coordinator Harold L Ickes announced a gasoline card rationing system will be installed in all shortage affected areas as soon as Henderson can manage it.
Dr. J. W. Rollo and department members visited Amarillo to inspect the city health unit and its laboratory facilities, meeting staff during the inspection.
Mrs. G A Battey mother of Galen Battey former Amarillian died early this morning at her home in Cawker City Kansas after a stroke suffered nearly a week ago Her husband Dr G A Battey had a stroke about a year ago and remains bedfast Galen Battey now manager of the Park Lane Hotel in Denver sent the telegram news.
