City commission outlines financing for Amarillo gas distribution network with 246 miles of mains 10 000 meters and regulators. Austin special report says about 500 local fee laws and many special expense accounts and salaries created under general laws were declared unconstitutional. Officials in Potter County avoided comment as the ruling was studied for local application. A special legislative session will be needed to fix void local laws and determine which offices are abolished.
Selection of jurors began in criminal district court for the Will Moore murder trial. Three jurors were sworn by noon as defense questions explored self defense and protection of property. Prospective jurors were asked about beliefs in the right to defend oneself from unlawful attack.

Ace Pendleton long linked to Southwest bank robberies was released from Gray County jail without bond after a furlough from a Odessa two year sentence. Gray County may hold Pendleton to serve the Odessa term before trial. He has TB and incurred county costs for nurse care and guards during his confinement.
Eighteenth annual Panhandle Music Teachers Association festival gathers 1790 contestants at Municipal Auditorium for a three day event. Fisk Jubilee Singers and Galli-Curci lead artist programs on Thursday and Friday nights with tickets on sale at Amarillo College of Music. Five judges from Tucson will award prizes as bands orchestras choirs and soloists compete across divisions. See NUMBER 3 Page 2.
Oklahoma City returns show Jack Walton, former governor under federal indictment, leading rival C. J. Blinn in a nonpartisan primary with 8 519 to 8 363 and a 156 vote plurality, advancing to the general election set for April 7.
Conductor Leopold Stokowski outlines a TV assisted broadcast of the second act of the Philadelphia Orchestra premiere of the opera Stozzeck on the WEAF network Thursday night. President Hoover will give eight radio talks in two months after his War on the Sea trip, with talks set for April 13 14 May 4 May 21 and Memorial Day.
Paul Cline, district organizer for the Communist party, said C. J. Coder and Lewis Hurst remained in Kansas City but would head to Dallas within two days to testify before a county grand jury about their alleged abduction and beating after leaving jail following a Communist demonstration. He noted departure times and travel mode would not be disclosed and that they planned to reach Texas without a public demonstration.
Warden Henry C. Hill rejected the inmates offer of 1100 convicts to end rioting in exchange for concessions. Riots flare at Joliet and Stateville prisons with fights among the bands and mess hall clashes. Two prisoners killed and two wounded in last Saturday's Joliet riot. guards move rioters to solitary confinement.
Abilene March 18 Mrs M I Pigg who killed her husband March 8 was no-billed by the grand jury. She said after the shooting he threatened and attacked her while intoxicated.
Gov Ross Sterling and Texas agencies along with several cities endorsed the Texas & Pacific railroad plan to build a line from Big Spring to Amarillo and Vega to serve the territory's agricultural needs. A Santa Fe protest argued the project would wastefully parallel existing lines while the territory is already adequately served. A hearing has occurred and a report from the Interstate Commerce Commission is awaited.
Two men and a woman were detained in Pampa on a plot to place Sheriff Lon Blanscott and deputies on the spot. Cash and weapons were found as authorities linked the trio to bootlegger activity. The raids also led to 24 vagrancy arrests and liquor charges involving four others.
Amarillo merchants plan a spring window style show Monday night at 7 40 as Miss Spring debuts late. Deve Derden's band will circulate music by truck along Polk street adding carnival flair. Living models and contests with cash prizes are planned by Globe-News with details to follow.
The Amarillo city commission reviews two bids to supply at least 2.5 million gallons daily. D L McDonald proposes 7 cents per thousand gallons for minimum demand and 3.42 cents for above that. McDade Drilling offers 4.5 cents for the initial 2.5 million and 3.5 cents beyond, with plant purchase options and depreciation discounts.
