Evans Faces Death Charge After Deputy’s Wounding
Special to The Globe Borger March 10 C Blackie Evans was arrested after a shooting in which deputy sheriff C A McLaury was mortally wounded. McLaury died at Pantex hospital Phillips. Evans was charged with murder and held in Stinnett jail after the deputy’s death. An Alamo Case Phillips employee attempted to disarm Evans and fired twice. One bullet hit McLaury’s chest and another went through his abdomen. A blood transfusion was performed using the victim’s brother Dr W M Lee.

Bank robbery foiled by telephone operator screams
In Trenton Farnin County Texas two masked men attempted a bank robbery at the First National Bank. They bound night watchman Floyd Morrison and accomplice Paul Annip, then climbed to the telephone wires but were spotted by operator Mrs Rose Yates who raised the alarm. Glenn Farhart was wounded by a shotgun shot and taken to Sherman hospital. Morrison said the pair forced their pistol from him and tied them with wire before retreating.

City gas plan attracts thousands of applications in Amarillo
The Amarillo gas system received about 5 000 applications by Friday with an estimated 6 000 to 7 000 more expected this week. Under a new contract domestic gas is offered at 22 1 2 cents per thousand cubic feet, a 40 percent cut from the old 29 cent rate. Mayor Ernest Thompson explained the card program to map main extensions and said the city does not force residents to buy gas from the city.
