Tragedy in Amarillo as stepfather kills girl then himself

Alva Ray Loden shot and beat 13 year old Josephine Mullen after an argument over a sleeveless dress. The girl, found at 10 am yesterday, remains unconscious but stable with head wounds and a facial bullet injury. Loden, despondent after jail release and unemployment, died by suicide. Funeral services for Loden set for 5 pm at Griggs Chapel.

Examiner urges Texas & Pacific Northern rail expansion in Texas Panhandle

Examiner Weed asks the Interstate Commerce Commission to grant 126 miles of new railway in the Panhandle. Proposed 80 miles Big Spring to Brownfield and 46 miles Lubbock Junction to Lubbock would pass Howard Martin Dawson Terry Lynn and Lubbock Counties. Post and Gatty Reach England After Atlantic Flight

Wiley Post and Harold Gatty landed at the Zealand Royal Air Force Airdrome near Chester England after crossing the Atlantic from New York. Oil Fires Roar Through East Texas Fields

A series of oil field blazes swept East Texas overnight. At Overton superintendent Frank H. Allison suffered severe burns as the Frank O Quinn well erupted and caught fire. In Kilgore flames 150 feet high rose from the Bell and Grady Stumpff No 1 boiler, forcing workers to flee. A T P railroad well near Gladewater blew over its derrick at daylight, with steam planned to cap the gusher. Firefighters fought to control the fires as wind shifts cleared the business district.

Rubio Slaying Trial Begins in Ardmore

In Ardmore Oklahoma on June 24 William E Guess former deputy sheriff faced murder charges for killing Emilio Cortes Rubio and Manuel Gomez. A jury panel was summoned while Judge John B Ogden held court as missing veniremen were ordered arrested. Sinclair posts flat price in East Texas crude

Tulsa OklahomaJune 24 The Sinclair Refining Company today posted a flat price of 20 cents a barrel for Eastern Texas crude oil abandoning its gravity price schedule of 25 to 37 cents a barrel.

Amarillo Adds Third Well To Meet Water Demand

With demand approaching supply, Amarillo connects the third McDonald water well four miles west to the city line. Mayor Ernest Thompson says Palo Duro Plant now runs at capacity and consumption exceeds 7.2 million gallons daily. City engineer BE N Stanley predicts eight million may be exceeded this summer as the five McDonald and Word site wells total ten million gallons daily production. The city reservoir holds five million gallons and authorities urge full use for gardens and trees as the city nears a surplus.

City Plans In-House Garbage Collection In Amarillo

Amarillo officials announce the city will take over garbage collection from the Amarillo Trading Company. They estimate monthly savings around 4000 dollars by running trucks themselves, with May costs already at 5437 dollars under the current 5 year contract set to expire September 1.
