COURTHOUSE ARDMORE Okla June 25 Cecil Crosby began today the defense of his fellow former peace officer Bill Guess on trial for the slaying of Emilio Cortes Rubio and Manuel Gomez two young Mexican collegians. Crosby described wrestling the weapon from Emilio before the lad was shot and said he warned the youths that they were deputy sheriffs. He testified he disarmed Emilio then Gomez emerged from the car and Guess fired after Crosby turned toward Salvador Cortes Rubio.
Fire spouts from the Frank O Quoin No 1 near Overton as oil gushes and flames hinder crews. Nearby Gladewater faces a gas hazard with a dangerous well and air heavy with fumes. Firefighter Floyd Kinley may delay nitro blast to stop the O Quoin blaze while gas and smoke prompt evacuations.

They lost their way via Spain and France, ran on empty fuel, but planned to continue shortly. They refueled and drank coffee and beer before departing.
Carlos O Neal was sentenced to five years for the Nelson Drug Store robbery at Tenth Avenue and Van Buren Streets. He faces a new trial this afternoon for the Williams Grocery heists at 611 Fillmore Street where he allegedly robbed the owner and took $100 at gunpoint. Victims identified him as the shooter in the string of robberies.
The State Railroad Commission ordered a split of Dallas Fort Worth motor bus schedules. Texas Motor Coaches gets 17 daily trips and Bowen Motor Coaches 11. Pickwick Greyhound must drop one Amarillo to the state line run. J C Duvall of Cle burne may run one bus daily between Cle burne and Fort Worth.
Russell Barnett a 48 year old produce man was slain in his Fort Worth home at 3 AM. His wife 40 admitted firing saying she acted to protect herself. The couple has a 12 year old boy and a 17 year old girl.
Dallas June 25 Watts was charged with assault to murder in the attempted holdup of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Tucker of Kilgore Monday night.
