Moscow reports Maxim Gorky is snubbed by the Soviet Literary Guild amid claims of foreign gold influence. The guild refused delegation and honors, citing treason as his motive, while state sponsors still welcomed him as Russia’s greatest living writer. A note suggests cultural figures regret Chaliapin’s alienation and seek to bolster Soviet literary achievement abroad. Also mentions a 1927 import record peak of 111,202,000 pounds valued at 20,088,000 dollars.
