Hitchhiker Robs Motorist Near Amarillo Along Borger Highway
An unidentified hitchhiker held up F. C. Loper early this morning about five miles from Amarillo on the Borger Highway, escaping with 160 dollars. Loper, a Frosted Foods district salesman, picked up the man near North East Eighth and was ordered to surrender the money. The description: about 29, 5 feet 9 inches, 155 pounds, wearing khaki, carrying a suitcase. Loper resumed trips in the Borger territory for manager H. W. Taylor.

Death Toll Jow 23 in Palestine
In Tel Aviv a midnight clash between Jewish residents and British troops raised Palestine’s five day death toll to 73. One Jew was killed and several wounded during the street fighting amid a curfew as British troops hunted for six missing officers. The curfew was to be lifted after a house to house search by Red Devils of the British Sixth Airborne Division. A London Daily Express dispatch said a British nurse was missing.

Eight Injured In Head-On Crash West Of Amarillo
A morning head-on collision on U. S. Highway 66 nine miles west of Amarillo injured eight people. The 1942 Chevrolet and a 1936 Dodge panel delivery truck collided on a curve near the underpass. Victims included Jack Cobb and Dorothy Landrey among the severely hurt.
