Hoover signs tariff bill making it law while Mellon applauds. Brisbane reflects on potential outcomes and explains the market response as Wall Street “pats the baby” with stock gains and optimism. A corny closer advertises local services and ambulance numbers.
Up to 10,000 fans from Amarillo and nearby towns packed into Butler Field for the welterweight title bout between Jack Reynolds and Cal Farley. Reynolds arrived from Oklahoma City at 5 am and, at 34, claims he faces his toughest test yet. Farley weighed 147 pounds and is in prime form.
Two men robbed the First National Bank of Towanda Kansas minutes after opening. They forced the cashier and a customer to the floor, fled with about $2,000 in cash, and sped toward Augusta in a large closed car. Towanda lies 26 miles northeast of Wichita.
Thomas Donovan, 66, was killed early today as he left his home to walk to a nearby store for tobacco. Joe Escobar, his son in law, surrendered to officers after Donovan was shot three times with a .45 caliber automatic.
Washington reports a closing jam in Congress delaying adjournment. Leaders abandoned Saturday adjournment and postponed next Wednesday as House and Senate must finish desired legislation. Many senators plan to stay through Hoover's veto or signing on the world war veterans pensions.
Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd arrives in Washington to receive the National Geographic Society special gold medal from President Hoover for his polar explorations. Byrd hints at returning to Antarctica, proposing weather stations and possibly airstrips to speed future flights between hemispheres. He arrives with 74 companions at Union Station amid cheering crowds.
The Federal board of hospitalizations recommended a new veterans hospital for neuropsychiatric patients be located in Waco Texas. President Hoover ordered further hearings to review the board’s conclusions and instructed Major General Hines to proceed with the inquiry.
Construction on the Lee Bivins School in Bivins addition begins immediately after bids. Clem Anderson Construction won 41 655 for the building with CulLiford plumbing and heating at 5 619, totaling 47 274. The 85 day contract covers a ten room school between Milam and Austin on Fifteenth Avenue, with all but three rooms ready for September.

Mrs. W B Billingsley testified that her husband was shot four times as he entered a Sparenberg filling station while trying to thwart a robbery. Mary Bryce described a robber entering and firing on Billingsley as the door opened, with Jack Bryce wounded. Emma Mayhall’s testimony faced defense objections and was postponed. Buck Bennett and Jack Bryce also testified.
Dick Fitzgerald of Amarillo and Louis M. Blackwell, recently tied to a box car robbery with cigarettes, are jailed at Amarillo on felony warrants from Sheriff Wade Hardy of Lubbock. Hardy plans to extradite them. exact charges not released. Fitzgerald had prior prison terms in Wilbarger and Donley counties ending in 1924.
Texarkana June 20 Charles Roach 11 was knocked from his bicycle by an automobile last night and fatally injured He died in a hospital.
In Austin on June 20 the Lubbock resident said he would vote for Clint Small for governor and Davidson withdrew, fueling hopes that Lynch Davidson may back Small. Bond opponents discuss anti-bond alignment as Moody and Maurits hold back their endorsements.

State Senator Tom Love of Dallas will address local voters tonight at 8 in the Panhandle district courtroom. The speech will be broadcast on radio station KGRs, with Judge J. W. Crudgington introducing the candidate as Love tours from Wichita Falls to Amarillo accompanied by J. V. Hardy of Dallas.
SAN ANGELO Texas June 20 Officers and delegates gathered for the opening session of the state convention of De Molays set to run through Saturday Masonic leader Sam I Cochran of Dallas was on the program to confer the legion of honor degree tonight.
United Press reports the Senate judiciary committee split on a bill to restrict federal injunctions in labor conflicts to only cases of violence fraud or threats. The proposal would outlaw Yellow Dog contracts and push for collective bargaining. A minority urged action while a majority said progress reduces need for federal limits.

Huntsville report states Warden E. Harrell of the Texas State Penitentiary resigned effective immediately after submitting the notice on Thursday. No successor named as Captain R H Vaughan became acting warden and Captain N E Barfield promoted. Lee Simmons, prison system general manager, said he would not rush to appoint a permanent warden and offered no statement.

The unified headquarters was set by Chicago and Cook County officials including Acting Police Commissioner Alcock, State's Attorney Swanson, Coroner Bundesen, and U S District Attorney Johnson. C.
