Fire at 2:05 a.m. caused $500 in damage at the home of W. H. Matthews Jr. 4223 West Ninth. The blaze started by an electric iron left on burned through to the floor. House loss amounted to $200 with about $360 of furniture damaged.
In Wellington on June 19 Col l ingsworth County voted down a 420000 road bond proposal to fund a north south highway. Early returns from 12 boxes show 840 for 792 against, a two thirds requirement not met by unreported rural boxes, while Wellington tally stood 744 for 172 against.

The Rio Grande Compact ratified February 12 1929 between Colorado New Mexico and Texas becomes effective today after President Hoover approved yesterday.
