Local labor will be used on the Santa Fe railroad project from Amarillo to Boise City Oklahoma with preparations nearly complete. Sharp & Fellows of Los Angeles plan to move equipment into Amarillo from Chicago Kansas City and other points and beginning construction immediately. Up to 700 workers will be employed on the job with Amarillo applicants given first chance once equipment arrives.
Elmer Sperry, inventor of the gyroscope, died at St John’s hospital in New York. His innovations included the gyrocompass, stabilizers for aircraft and ships, a high intensity search light, and multiple naval devices. He served on the naval consulting board since 1915. Flood warnings stretched across Texas after week end storms killed at least nine people and damaged crops in Dawson and Lynn counties. Mourners in O'Donnell held services for two mothers struck by lightning while tending babies. In Goree a family of five perished as floodwaters swept through their home. Wichita Falls and area faced impassable roads and washed out tracks with repairs expected to take days. A Luling man’s body was not yet recovered in San Angelo.
Fred Skelton a farmer in Excelsior Springs Missouri slept with a window open when a lightning bolt pierced the screen struck his pillow and tore it to fragments. The bolt ripped off all of his hair and left him unconscious for about an hour before he recovered and planned to sleep near fresh air again.

Potter County Democratic executive committee to meet at 8 in the county courtroom to determine ballot order for candidates and discuss run off rules. Chicago, June 16. Ralph J Capone, brother of Al Capone, was sentenced to three years in the Federal penitentiary at Leavenworth and fined $10,000 for defrauding the government by filing false income tax returns. He was convicted on two counts. terms run concurrently with the other sentence.
A Dallas weekend crash spree left one dead and ten injured. John Bratton, 74, a retired farmer from Austin, was killed in an Oak Cliff collision on Sunday. His 85 year old daughter Belle Bratton, state blind school supervisor, was among the injured. Surviving relatives include three sons J W Dallas Joe Austin Travis County deputy Arch Austin and three daughters Belle Noe and Watson of San Benito. The body will be sent to Austin after services in Dallas.
In New York on June 16 Mrs. Aimee Semple McPherson paid 134.55 in duties for undeclared clothing worth 86, forfeiture. Assistant Solicitor George W. Brewer accepted that the omission was a mistake and that worn clothing is duty free in her understanding.
Grain prices touched new lows for the year at the Chicago Board of Trade. Wheat opened down more than a cent from record lows and fell another cent in the first half hour. December corn slid to 69 1/2 cents and July wheat reached 97 1/2 cents.
Mrs Calvin Coolidge was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws by the University of Vermont in Burlington on June 16. The ceremony recognized her as an alumna of the institution and marked a notable civilian honors event.

Initial drawings were rejected, showing two options around 500000 and 740000 dollars before fees or furnishings, with new plans to cost about 400000 funded by current tax valuations.

W. E. Neeley, 52, Brazos County attorney, died after a yearlong illness. He served a second term and previously led Grimes and De Witt counties in the same office. A former legislator and state representative, he is survived by his widow and three daughters.
