A week old strike in Eastern Ohio sparked a riot at the New Lafferty mine of the M A Hanna Coal Company as 2000 miners and supporters faced deputies. Officials warned Governor White of possible further clashes as 40 deputies stood ready and arrests were made after tear gas and gunfire.

Gov. Ross Sterling said he will defer a possible special session of the Texas Legislature until he can study the proposed East Texas oil plan and enforcement outline. He noted oil matters are not urgent enough to trigger a session if the plan can stabilize production. He cited a East Texas plan aiming to save the oil industry with broad company support and balanced proration.
Stillwell, Kansas, June 12. Herbert Holliday former toilet convict and alleged Rondout mail train robber was shot and killed by railroad agents at the Stillwell station as he tried to steal five tires from the express room. accomplice J I Harmon wounded in arm and captured with a woman claiming to be Holliday's wife.
Dee Hale a Weslaco youth was held for trial on homicide charges after a Matamoros hearing. In a Rio Rico cabaret a fatal shooting of Miss Mina Clark occurred last Sunday night during a scuffle between Ham and Policeman Arnulfo De La Rosa, who allegedly fired the pistol.
Amelia Earhart force landed an autogiro near Abilene airport during a coast to coast flight. The craft dropped into a parkway near parked cars, damaging wings but injuring no one. Earhart and mechanic Eddie Devaught were unharmed. parts will be shipped for repairs.
George Palmer Putnam announced that Paul Lukins of the Pitcairn Company will pilot a second autogiro to meet Amelia Earhart in Oklahoma City on Sunday. Earhart’s machine suffered damage in a previous drop at Abilene Texas and has engagements scheduled before Sunday noon.
J Roy Cullum president of the Texas Automobile Dealers Association travels to Dallas and Fort Worth to meet members and arrange the annual convention set for June 15 and 16 in Mineral Wells. Several Amarillo dealers will attend.

Police hunted Bob Compton 27 Gonzales or his body over the fatal shooting of his former sweetheart Lillian Nagel 17 in San Antonio. Nagel a Brackenridge high school graduate was found unconscious with a .32 caliber pistol bullet in her brain. Her mother heard a scream and found her in the living room. Compton's note urged searchers not to look for him as he would be dead. Doctors said Nagel’s chances of recovery were slim and she would die soon.

The commission defends 20 map changes and takes final responsibility for the board's wholesale resignations led by chairman John McKnight and colleagues Guy Carlander Fred Bone J R Gulerie C R Garner Dick Seay and W W Kelly.

Deputy sheriffs W. E. Guess and Cecil Crosby pleaded not guilty at district court arraignment in Ardmore Oklahoma to murder charges in the slaying of Emilio Cortes Rubio and his friend Manuel Gomes last Monday. Trial likely the week of June 22 with bond set at 25000 each.
An Austin telegram reports a Texas ranger captain appeals for clemency for Norman Belby Kid McCoy, claiming Belby aided relief efforts after the 1916 Hidalgo County hurricane while with the Tist N infantry on the Sterling ranch.
Oklahoma City June 12 The governor directed immediate release of Joe Perez a Mexican cotton picker whose manslaughter conviction at Lawton was reversed by the State Criminal Court of Appeals. The appellate mandate normally takes 15 days to reach the lower court but a release order was telegraphed after a conference between Judge Bill H. Chappell and the governor. Perez had been sentenced to 10 years for killing Perfeto Morales in 1929 and won reversal on a self defense plea.
Kilgore Texas June 12 A journalist reports Johnson a 60 year old oil field worker from Corsicana became the first summer heat victim in the area. He collapsed at a well near Kilgore yesterday and died en route to a hospital.
Dr L O Howard head of the Bureau of Entomology in the Department of Agriculture in Washington D C was awarded the 1931 Copper gold medal and five thousand dollars for distinguished service to American agriculture.

R D Parker of the Railroad Commission said a Tyler devised East Texas stabilization plan "might serve a good purpose temporarily." Tyler Texas June 12 Directors of the Hash Texas Lease Royalty and Producers Association were summoned to meet Sunday to discuss a new plan to settle the East Texas oil production controversy. A telegram to Governor Ross Sterling asked him to avoid a special session until the proposal is considered. The plan would permit 300 barrels per day from each 20 acres regardless of flow potential.
The 142nd Infantry Band leads a motorcade from Amarillo to Dalhart on June 19 for the first annual rodeo and cowboy reunion sponsored by the Dalhart Texan and the American Legion. The caravan departs the Chamber of Commerce at 9 AM to join a big parade before the rodeo.
