Amarillo city commission granted most ad requests for zoning changes Thursday morning. Sixteenth Avenue from Polk to Washington was designated for retail use, replacing an apartment designation. Protests from property owners and a Presbyterian church group influenced tweaks to Harrison Street, but the final map kept Harrison in a business zone.
Dallas police said Samuel Edward Wright, a grocer, snatched a $5,000 package from William Gilbert, a William Green & Company employee, claiming it was a joke. Wright led officers on a several-block chase and was jailed after admitting the beer parlor conspiracy. The money was recovered and Wright claimed the plan was to prank a friend. Two others arrested in the beer parlor plot.
In Austin on June 11 Governor Sterling faced pressure from 45 oil executives led by the Texas Oil Emergency Committee to call an extra legislative session for remedial oil legislation. Kilgore Mayor Malcolm Crim said many in East Texas now favor proration powers for the Railroad Commission, while Sterling remained noncommittal and said he would gauge sentiment in a day or two. Ed Landreth reported that House members favored action, with 87 of 117 polled supports for new laws, 14 for proration, five undecided, and 11 against.

A murder charge was filed this morning against Ola Redman 32 confessed slayer of Fred Chase 33 whose body was found in a roadside automobile near Tahora. Redman confessed after hours of questioning saying she shot Chase in self defense, arrest made at her mother’s home 13 miles southwest of Post.
In Joplin Missouri on June 11 a federal grand jury indicted forty eight men described as members of an alleged wholesale liquor ring linked to Al Capone with headquarters in Kansas City. The 121 overt acts alleged target the prohibition law. Indictment to be moved to Kansas City for arraignments as many defendants expect to plead guilty per U S district attorney W L Vandeventer.
Vernon Texas June 11 A civil suit seeking 10000 in real and exemplary damages was filed in 46th District Court against Ranger Sergeant M T Gonzaullas. Plaintiffs C W and Mrs Barrett of Vernon claim the accident near Vernon on July 29 1930 fatally injured their son Ewell Lavern Barrett 12.
Dr Edward Henry Cary of Dallas Texas was elected president elect of the American Medical Association in Philadelphia. The emeritus dean of Baylor University College of Medicine will assume his duties at the next annual meeting.
A Mexican embassy report details two Mexican students Emilio Cortes Rubio and Manuel Gomez shot without warning by an Oklahoma deputy sheriff near Ardmore while traveling toward Mexico. The deputy seized a pistol from Emilio as officers pursued after a tense encounter.
Mrs Ethel Hamlin a club woman and witness in the David Clark murder case was placed under guard after new threats. She told police a man in a car flashed a badge and urged her to sign a paper while threatening violence and saying she should leave Los Angeles until Clark’s trial.
Kansas City June 11 James C Stone chairman of the Federal Farm Board says the wheat outlook is bullish He notes growers will not keep producing wheat to be sold below cost Stone Edgar Markman and Stanley Reed accompanied him en route to Manhattan Kansas where Stone will speak Friday The group reports reductions in wheat acreage in Australia about30 per cent in Argentina 25 per cent and a poorer Canadian crop than in years past
President Hoover will embark a special train from Orange Virginia Sunday night to start a Western speaking tour. He will stop at Indianapolis Marion Ohio Springfield and Lincoln Home visiting the Lincoln Memorial and meeting editors and officials along the way. The trip includes a dedicatory address a 30 minute G A R veterans parade and a wreath for Lincoln Memorial.
Gen. John A. Hulen, Fort Worth and Denver railway general manager, announced in Pampa that work could begin August 1 on the Pampa Childress branch. He said deeds for right of way were being secured and bids for construction would be advertised once deeds are ready.
One man died and two injured when a Chicago passenger plane crashed near Walbridge at the Hocking Valley dump shortly after 11 A M today. The dead man was Capt M M Rubner the pilot of the monoplane bound for the transcontinental airport.
Tsingtao June 11 18 sailors trapped in the sunken British submarine Poseidon after a collision off Keheiwel China were believed alive as naval officials said rescue depended on speedy action. The American salvage ship Pigeon carrying modern compressed air equipment was en route to aid in the rescue effort.
American submarine experts in China believe the salvage ship Pigeon can assist in rescuing any survivors from the sunken British submarine Poseidon. The Pigeon carries compressed air apparatus for underwater emergencies and should reach the disaster site this afternoon or evening.
Reports from WEIHAI on June 11 deny any Poseidon submarine crew members have been rescued. Officials say communication with the 18 men entombed aboard the sunken vessel has not been maintained and hope for a rescue is fading.
Walter W. Dobbins, about 45, collapsed and died at 11 o'clock this morning at 201 South Buchanan Street. He resided at 101 South Buchanan and is survived by several brothers and sisters.
In St Joseph Missouri on June 11 16 year old Michael Burke once called the citys one man crime wave was acquitted of a murder during a holdup. Judge Sam Wilcox ordered Burke committed to a state insane hospital and to be sent to the institution Monday after a conference with attorneys following the earlier announcement of a second murder trial.
United Press dispatch reports both parties courting young voters ahead of 1932 elections. Washington hosts the Republican conference of young Republicans with about 300 delegates to hear leaders like Mrs Dolly Gann Senator Simeon D Fess Patrick Hurley and Walter Brown. Democratic speakers join the appeal as youth eligibility climbs to eight million by 1932.
State Senator Jake Loy of Sherman declared he opposed a special session until a definite remedy for the oil industry was proposed. He demanded facts and a constructive bill before spending public money, noting press reports of a campaign but no actionable legislation to relieve the industry’s distress.
The Rev. E. G. Kilgore, 76, a veteran Southern Methodist minister once prominent in Texas Methodism, died in New York City last night. His Dallas sons A. K. Kilgore and J. B. Kilgore were advised today. He lived in New York four years and previously resided in Greenville. He conducted revival meetings across Texas and the South and will be buried in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thornburn of Dallas visit Mr. and Mrs. Henry C. Harding at their Palo Duro Canyon ranch. The Thornburns are guests and sisters share family ties with Mrs. Harding. Berry's rug cleaning located at 905 W 10th.
