Rangers Trial On At Stinnett

The State v DeGraffenreich trial opened in Stinnett with Ranger DeGraffenreich charged with assault to murder. The defense sought a continuance over absent Rangers Harrell and Purvis and warned of a possible venue change if denied. About a dozen State Rangers attended led by Capt. Tom Hickman. Levine and new pilot to start trip in 10 days

Charles A. Levine and French pilot Maurice Drouhin will be ready to depart for a transatlantic flight to the United States in about ten days. John Carisi, factory superintendent for Levine’s aircraft corporation, announced the plan.

Borger Mayor Bribe Count Dismissed in District Court

Stinett July 28 The bribery charge against John R. Miller former mayor of Borger was dismissed in district court. The indictment claimed a $200 bribe for special favor but the court ruled the mayoral duties were not clearly defined at the time and no offense against the peace and dignity of the state was alleged.

Sacramento July 23 United Press reports California's gin marriage law goes into effect. Couples must file intention notices at least three days ahead, delaying over 600 marriages. The statute aims to curb liquor inspired marriages seen as a source of future annulment and divorce.

Two Men Drown In Lake Near Stamford

Stamford, July 28. Claude Hines and Erwin Chapman drowned after their boat capsized on Lake Penick sixteen miles southeast of town. Edd Biggs swam to shore but could not rescue the others. both bodies recovered Thursday morning.

Eight Jurors Chosen For LeBouef Trial

In Franklin Louisiana two more jurors were selected bringing the panel to eight for the trial of Mrs Ada Bonner Lebouef her mother Dr Thomas E Dreher and James Beadle on charges of murdering James J Lebouef. The mother wept as the selections continued in St Mary parish criminal court.
