Ice Cream Soda Pioneers Beckon A Lost Era
New York figures John Robertson and Francis Tietz are hailed as fathers of ice cream soda for a rainy day invention at Kline’s shop in 1872. They mixed ice cream with soda and fruit, creating a popular tem perance drink that once drew Washington Square elites and Fifth Avenue footmen, though both later drifted from sodas. Robertson later managed Dorlon’s, while Tietz pursued other ventures and the pair drifted apart.
