Snider crafts new flies as hobby and art

Friday July 26 1948 Amarillo Globe features Mr Snider who ties fishing flies from quick patterns to original creations inspired by insect observation. His woolly worm fly uses black hackle and chenille on a long shank and reportedly fools trout and pan fish. Mr and Mrs C Petruccioni have left for a three day business trip to Denver.

Fly Tying Demands Patience From Amarillo Angler

A. J. Snider, longtime fisherman, ties his own flies to lure fish, a craft he learned after a Red Cross nurse and Miss Mary L. Jenkins demonstrated the art in a hospital stay. He explains silk thread as the base, with tail body and hackle added, and a whip-finisher finishing the knot. Materials span feathers, fur, silk, tinsel, lacquer, cork, and even film, sourced globally, with trial fishing providing the main enjoyment.
