Polls Open at 8 and Close at 7 on Election Day

Tomorrow voters will find polls open from eight in the morning to seven in the evening. State liquor stores stay closed. Banks may close or adjust with payday wagers. Democratic precinct conventions at 27 voting sites begin at two PM to name delegates to the county convention, with county delegates to the September state convention also chosen. Precinct conventions, open to Democrats or pledging party members, drive party machinery, though attendance is usually small. Din of Campaigns Subsides as Voters Take Over

Texas voters prepare for a large Democratic primary with drought weather worries. The Texas Poll reports Homer P. Rainey leading early, Beauford Jester closing, and Jerry Sadler fading as July returns hint at a runoff. Coast Guard and Navy Aid Stricken Freighter El Salvador Victory

A Coast Guard cutter and a Navy tanker rushed to the aid of the 10,000 ton freighter El Salvador Victory after its fire raged out of control in the hold. Fifty crew members fought the blaze for four hours. no casualties were reported. The Los Angeles bound ship laid 12 miles off Magdalena Bay, Mexico, about 650 miles south of the coast. The radio SOS reached Coast Guard authorities in Los Angeles.

Boy Dies and 22 Ill in Highland Park Typhoid Epidemic

Lineman Survives Fall After Pole Snaps at Site

Glenn Bernard Gillenger, 32, Canadian River Gas Co, was hurled 25 feet when a brace pole snapped while replacing a guy wire at 401 North Fillmore.
