Amarillo Lumbermen Dismayed by New OPA Pricing
Amarillo lumbermen express pessimism over the Barkley amendment in the OPA revival bill. They warn that even with approval, it will take spring before any price increases and lumber supplies reflect the changes. They note OPA will require new cost data and a 30 to 60 day decision window, with possible appeals and holiday delays. The amendment would fix ceilings based on 1940 average industry prices plus subsequent cost increases, shifting away from general industry-wide ceilings.
