The Chicago Rock Island and Gulf Railway asked the Interstate Commerce Commission for authorization to acquire a 58 mile Amarillo to Stinnett Texas line and to extend it 50 miles to the Texas Oklahoma border.
Donna Vandever seeks 1,000,000 breach of promise from J. O. Whittenberg, oilman and cattleman, in Panhandle court opening Monday in Amarillo. She travels with her 10 year old son and is visiting her daughter. Attorneys Payne and Hart previously offered a reward to locate Whittenberg for service.
A. P. report from Yankee Stadium details heavyweights Gene Tunney weighing 192 pounds and Tom Heeney 208½ pounds for their title bout. Tunney and Heeney exchanged friendly greetings as they weighed in and prepared to rest before ring time. Boxing commission surgeons attended weigh-in.
Denver inmates will hear the Tunney Heeney championship bout via a radio loud speaker system installed in the county jail. The warden says inmates can stay up one hour later to hear the ringside broadcast from New York, preferring direct radio delivery to word of the winner.
Heeney traveled to New York aboard the Phantom yacht owned by Joseph Holbrook of Red Bank New Jersey. The 60 mile journey from Fairhaven was covered in two hours.

Construction of a Rock Island railroad switch near Soney for Helium Plant No. 3 advances after a survey. The project, funded by a 1.475 million dollar Congress appropriation, aims to finish in about 90 days with material shipments beginning next week. R. O. Vestal, plant superintendent, is in the area to oversee construction.
Lee White, a guard, was killed after a motor car pursuing two state reformatory inmates overturned near Hutchinson Kansas. Clifford Kennedy was seriously injured and other guards suffered injuries as the pursuit followed a midnight escape by Glenn Bellfield and Juke Schell.

Oil prices in the Panhandle rise today by about 18 cents on average across producing counties. Humble Oil & Refining posted schedules show increases from 12 cents in Gray County to 20 cents in other counties, with Care and Hutchinson counties leading the gain where most grades are about 20 cents higher than months past.

Mrs Susanna Armietrong matron at the city jail was attacked by prisoner Ellene Hamilton 26 and sustained what appeared to be a fractured right knee after falling on the cement floor in a well housing area. The incident occurred in Denver on July 26.

McCarty will megaphone blow by blow from the north side of the Globe News building as reports arrive via wire. Street closures on Sixth Street from Taylor to Willmore will block traffic until the bout ends.
