Meegina Sask July 27 United Press reports an influenza epidemic sweeping Northwestern Canadian Indian tribes from the Mackenzie Delta to Alberta waterways. Royal Canadian Mounted Police reports 30 dead at Fort Resolution on Great Slave Lake and that in some villages up to 90 percent of the population may be afflicted.
The Italia survivors head south to Italy for an inquiry into their Arctic voyage. General Nobile appears drained while Captain Zappi stays aboard as crowds at Narvik show hostility and Marines guard the ship.
C M McCoy local paper hanger and World War I veteran was adjudged insane after manslaughter conviction in the death of Arthur Lewis. He will be sent Sunday to the U S War Veterans hospital at Gulfport Mississippi under Legion care until cured. The 1927 killing near the Santa Fe depot followed domestic trouble and he surrendered after the incident.

Reporters at city boxes telephoning local returns. special correspondents cover district races. Texas Election Bureau wire furnishes state results. Officials from the Game Fish and Oyster department visited Amarillo to choose a site near McSpadden Lake east of Canyon. Engineer Garrett will submit a report next week and work may start soon. In Houston on July 27 figures from United Press report that Texas company and Gulf Pipe Line met advances in crude prices announced yesterday by Humble and Carter Oil at Tulsa. Gulf met the increases only in higher gravity crude.
Fourteen benches taken from the City Tourist park are being placed in Elwood park. The benches will be painted green and installed in various locations throughout the park.
Tex Rickard announced Madison Square Garden lost 155,719.77 on the Tunney Heeney fight at Yankee Stadium. Tunney earned 266.22 per second for 32 minutes 52 seconds of work, with a $525,000 purse and 1,972 active seconds in defending his heavyweight title.
Seattle reports no relief after five days of record heat in the Pacific Northwest. Temperatures rise again with higher humidity making conditions still unbearable and only one death attributed to the extreme spell so far.
The Master Spinners federation decided on a lockout affecting about 500000 workers to ease industry conditions. The measure takes effect August 11. Galveston dredging contract awarded to Orleans Dredging Co for about 621000 to deepen the channel from 96 to 22 feet, with four million yards of material to be removed.
Miss Louise Poe of El Paso will wed J Malcolm Shelton a prominent Amarillo cattleman at the Trinity Methodist church in El Paso. The ceremony will be conducted by Rev W Angie Smith. The couple plan a New York visit then an extended trip to Europe before settling at home.
Republican nominee Herbert Hoover returns to San Francisco after 34 years with a civic parade. Nearly 100 motor cars line the route as Mayor James Rolph Jr. hosts a rotunda welcome at City Hall. Hoover plans a broadcast address and stops for lunch with George Cameron of the Chronicle before Palo Alto celebrations.
Sen. George H. Moses, vice chairman of the eastern Republican advisory committee, argues against attacking the solid South to win electoral votes for Herbert Hoover. He warns passions would cool and suggests focusing on congressional contests first, expanding later only if ground for optimism appears.
Amarillo police have been asked to be on the lookout for Audrey Hinds, a one year old Muskogee boy who ran away from home this week. He bears a deep scar over his right eye and is traveling with a 16 year old carrying an army pack, per information from W. Compton, Muskogee chief of police.
A packed High School audience witnessed a tense election eve encounter between county judge candidate Sam B Motlow and challenger E Nelson. Motlow spoke first, followed by Nelson, as local and state figures addressed the restless crowd in a spirited two part event with other races stirring excitement.
A lightning-sparked blaze at Central State Hospital for the Insane in Nashville, Tennessee, released more than 350 inmates, with 50 or more on the run. Eleven dangerous criminals, including two murderers, fled into the surrounding fields as guards armed with flashlights pursued the escapees. The fire confined to the administration building after hours of effort.
