Acreage is up six million acres, up to 50 percent higher than 1939 wartime levels. Labor includes veterans, women, students, volunteers, holidaymakers, and POWs. Grain two thirds, potatoes one third, vegetables over half of prewar levels. German harvests will lag 15 to 20 percent due to manpower shortages and poor farming conditions.
