Elopement tradition spans three generations in Hartung family
Dr Emil Hartung recalls a family pattern of elopements as granddaughter Marilla, 18, runs off with John Grodder of Patchogue. The clan blesses the union with gifts and a check. Marilla notes happiness, early marriages, and a housewifely life after eloping. The family anticipates further elopements, not weddings.
